WHYTELEAFE 1 - 2 FOLKESTONE INVICTA
Tuesday 6th September 2011
FA Cup with Budweiser - Preliminary round replay

Whyteleafe went out of the FA Cup losing the replay to Folkestone. Leafe played some good football at times but neither side created as many chances as in the first game.

Jay Garrick had the first chance in the 11th minute when he beating three defenders but then pushing the ball a little too far forward and giving Jack Delo the chance to come out and grab it. At the other end Darren Smith put Stuart King through but the home defence were alert, with two of them quickly getting in the way to block the shot.

Fabian Batchelor had two chances in a minute, first shooting over from 30 yards, then in a 25th minute shot over the bar from close range. Garrick then beat two defenders and finding Kwabena Agyei in the box but he too shot over the bar.

Folkestone took the lead in the 29th minute. King played a neat one two with Smith before firing the ball past Ricky Borrett.

Whyteleafe only took three minutes to respond. Scott Simpson found Garrick in the box. His shot was blocked by Delo but, after what seem like an endless scramble, he fired home from close range.

Two further chances came in the first half to take the lead, Simpson firing wide from a 35th minute cross from Jerome Ingam and Garrick saw his 41st minute shot saved again after beating two defenders.

Leafe started the second half strongly. Simpson fired way over the bar in the 48th minute following a corner that was never properly cleared. Agyei had a fine shot from the edge of the box that just cleared the bar. The hosts then had a penalty appeal turned down in the 62nd minute when Fabian Batchelor appeared to be bundled over in the box.

The visitors also claimed a penalty in the 74th minute when James Everitt's shot hit a Leafe defender on the arm but the referee agreed he couldn't possibly have got out of the way of the shot from point blank range.

In the end, Folkestone's winner was rather fortuitous. A 79th minute shot took a wicked deflection that Borrett at full stretch could only parry into the path of King who shot home from close range. Folkestone could have extended their lead but Borrett made fine saves from Smith and Everitt in the closing minutes.

Whyteleafe: Borrett, Huell, Brockhurst, Fleming, Aldous, Batchelor (Laud-Anderson 84), Brown, Ingram, Agyei, Garrick (Clare 84), Simpson (Thomas 59).
