Whyteleafe took a point from this competitive match to end the hosts run of thre straight victories and also made it three clean sheets in a row in league matches. Leafe are now becoming a tough side to beat and with the pace up front, if they can just get the final ball right, the goals will start to come at the right end.
The opening exchanges were lively with the sides fairly equal. Scott Simpson's fourth minute free kick found Ryan Thomas on the edge of the box but his rather weak shot was easily saved by Rob French. Two minutes later Jerome Ingram's dangerous cross was hooked to safety by Ashley Brown with Jay Garrick ready to pounce.
Faversham's first clear chance came in the 14th minute, Brown heading over from a Justin Ascheri corner. Aaron Quaine then made a good run into the box in the 17th minute, Fred Fleming doing well to block his shot. The hosts thought they had scored in the 27th minute when a tremendous dipping 30 yard free kick from Quaine looked goalbound but Paul Smith managed to get his fingertips to it and deflected it onto the bar.
Don Huell then had to be substituted due to illness, Danny Dudley being given a chance which he took well with the defence looking solid throughout.
Leafe won a corner in the 37th minute, Thomas finding Fleming in the box, but his header went over the bar.
Late pressure from the hosts at the end of the first half saw Smith make three impressive saves, first from Ascheri, then tipping over a fierce shot from Adrian Stone, and in stoppage time a free kick from Quaine.
After a quiet start to the second half, the visitors gradually began to dominate. In the 60th minute Stephane Gnamore was through but Brown just managed to get a toe on the ball before he could shoot, hitting the ball narrowly wide of his own goal. Simpson took the resultant corner, finding Fleming who headed wide.
At the other end Quaine fired just over in the 72nd minute following a long throw from Ascheri then Leafe had their best chance of the game in the 74th minute, Gnamore sending Garrick clear but French was quickly out of his goal to block Garrick's shot on the edge of the box. French was also quickly out to block an effort from Gnamore in the 79th minute. Leafe had the best of the closing minutes without creating any clear chances, although French was very lucky to get away with collecting the ball well outside his area in the final minute with Gnamore bearing down on him.
Overall a draw was probably a fair result and Leafe look to be getting stronger and after losing the first three games, have recovered well to climb to a mid table position.
Whyteleafe: Smith, Brown, Huell (Dudley 29), Fleming, Aldous, Ingram, Thomas, Stripp, Garrick, Gnamore, Simpson. Subs not used, Clare, Laud-Anderson, Brockhurst, Borrett.
