WHYTELEAFE 0 - 4 BOGNOR REGIS TOWN
Saturday 24th September 2011
Ryman League Division 1 South

Being forced into a number of changes Whyteleafe were no match for a very strong Bognor side who are bound to be challenging for promotion again, having missed out last season on goal difference by just one goal.

The visitors took control of the game from the start and in the sixth minute, Terry Dodd headed just wide after outjumping Paul Smith to get his head to a cross. Three minutes later however they took the lead when Jason Prior headed home from a Ben Johnson corner.

Whyteleafe went close in the 13th minute. A misplaced pass from Kane Wills was intercepted by Kwabena Agyei and his 25 yard dipping volley was just off target. Dodd then hit the side netting in the 15th minute and Prior should have scored in the 21st minute but shot over the bar from close range after Johnson found him unmarked in the box.

Alec Brown had a chance in the 24th minute when Jerome Ingram flicked the ball on to him but he shot over.

Bognor increased their lead in the 25th minute, again from a Johnson corner, this time Tim Bond heading home with little challenge from the home defence.

Agyei went close again in the 39th minute, a repeat of his earlier chance when a pass from Wills again went astray, but his shot curled inches wide of the target. A minute later Prior was through but Smith tipped his shot over the bar, although curiously the officials gave a goal kick.

The visitors started the second half where they left off in the first, but in the only ugly incident of the game, Dodd was lucky to escape with a yellow card when he stamped on Ashley Henry-Brown.

Brown had a chance in the 55th minute when Stephane Gnamore flicked on a long throw but he shot over the bar. At the other end Dodd was clean through in the 60th minute but Smith did well to come out and make the save. Four minutes later James Crane made a run into the box and his shot was deflected into the side netting. For the third time in the match, Bognor scored from a Johnson corner, this time Luke Nightingale scoring from close range.

The best move of the match came in the 71st minute when a brilliant run from Nightingale, swapping passes with Wills and Johnson, saw him set up Dodd with an open goal but he managed to scoop the ball up on to the bar from close range.

Fred Fleming did well to block a Nightingale shot in the 76th minute but Bognor completed the scoring in the 90th minute with Dodd scoring with a fine left foot shot from the edge of the box.
