WHYTELEAFE 3 - 1 WOKING
Tuesday 18th January 2011
Surrey Senior Cup

Whyteleafe finally managed to play this much postponed game which was first scheduled for November and were rewarded with a well deserved victory that takes thim into a third round tie with Corinthian Casuals.

Leafe were good value for this win and dominated large parts of the game. After a quiet opening, the hosts took the game to Woking and in the 15th minute, an Alec Brown cross found Stephane Gnamore in the box and his shot was blocked. 2 minutes later Daryl Coleman tried his luck from 35 yards but shot wide. A minute later Chris O'Flaherty's cross found Gnamore in the box but his shot was blocked. Leafe took a deserved lead in the 22nd minute. O'Flaherty, who was tormenting right back Josh Watkins with his tricky runs down the left wing, cut inside him, took the ball into the box, and shot past advancing keeper Matt Pegler, his shot hitting the near post, but the ball rebounded to Brown who hammered it into the net.

Whyteleafe didn't have to wait long for the second, Gnamore challenging keeper Pegler in the air from a Dean Gunner cross. Pegler only managed to push the ball out to the edge of the box where Lee Stripp was on hand to blast the ball back into the net.

Danny Frith also made short work of beating Watkins on an overlap run in the 31st minute. He also cut into the box but his cross went right in front of the Woking goal but eluded everyone. Another good chance came in the 42nd minute when Fabian Bachelors' header from an O'Flaherty corner was well blocked by Pegler.

Woking caught Leafe cold at the start of the second half and pulled one back when Craig Falconbridge broke clear of the defence and slotted the ball past Rick Borrett. The visitors soon found themselves under pressure again and spent most of the rest of the game defending. O'Flaherty beat 2 defenders in the 49th minute, got into the box and saw his shot well saved by Pegler.

Coleman hit the bar in the 55th minute from an O'Flaherty cross and the same two players combined again in the 58th minute, this time Coleman's shot was blocked.

Woking had a good chance to equalise in the 61st minute when they were awarded a free kick in a central position on the edge of the box but Falconbridge hit it over the bar.

Whyteleafe restored their two goal lead in the 66th minute. Eligjah Ogunseye, who had just come on, crossed into the box and O'Flaherty was on hand to tap in from close range.

Leafe dominated the rest of the game and could easily have added a fourth, with Ogunseye going close in the 82nd minute and Fred Fleming heading just wide from an 84th minute O'Flaherty corner. Danny Oakins spotted Pegler off his line in the 85th minute but his 40 yard effort went over the bar, then O'flaherty saw his 88th minute effort well saved at the near post by Pegler.

Whyteleafe: Borrett, Frith, Gunner, Fleming, Coleman, Stripp, Goddman, Gnamore (Agyei 45), Brown (Ogunseye 66), Batchelor (Oakins 71), O'Flaherty.
