BANSTEAD ATHLETIC 1 - 3 WHYTELEAFE
Tuesday 19th October 2010
Surrey Senior Cup

Whyteleafe progressed to the next round with a win against Combined Counties side Banstead on a cold wet night at Merland Rise.

The visitors had most of the early play and went close in the 11th minute when Chris O'Flaherty sent Billy Dunn clear down the left. His cross found Bentley Graham who shot just wide of goal.

Three minutes later Whyteleafe took the lead. Dunn beat three players before finding Danny Oakins in the box - his shot beating former 'Leafe reserve team keeper Gavin Dilley.

Banstead's first chance came in the 18th minute, Jose Goncalves shot being well saved by Rob O'Hara.

Nicky English's side almost went two up on 28 minutes. Dunn rounded Dilley but his shot was cleared off the line as far as O'Flaherty who hit the ball well but Dilley saved. Just before half time Fabian Batchelor put the ball through to Graham who shot just wide.

'Leafe started the second half strongly and doubled their lead after 48 minutes. O'Flaherty's free kick found Alec Brown on the edge of the box and his fierce strike went in the net, clipping the underside of the bar. Four minutes later Oakins went close when chipping Dilley, but his effort went just wide. Dunn also went close in the 54th minute.

Ross Malyon had a promising debut at left back. In the 61st minute, he went on an overlap run down the left, and his cross found Oakins who shot into the side net.

Banstead pulled one back in the 73rd minute. Cameron Goff found Michael Heverin in the box and he headed home from close range. The hosts then went close to equalising in the 77th minute. Goncalves shot was cleared off the line by Connor Symon then his second effort was cleared off the line by Fred Fleming.

O'Flaherty found Chris Webster in a good position in the 83rd minute, his shot going just wide of the target. Leafe made certain of the game in the 90th minute. Graham pushed the ball forward from the halfway line, but Dunn and Webster were both offside, but made no attempt to play the ball walking backwards. Graham took advantage of a static defence, running on to the ball himself and slotting past Dilley into the net to make sure the visitors progress to the next round.

Whyteleafe: O'Hara, Ogunseye (Symon 50), Malyon, Gunner, Fleming, Brown, Batchelor (Thomas 55), Graham, Dunn, Oakins (Webster 75), O'Flaherty.
