Honours were even after an entertaining game played in surprisingly chilly and blustery conditions and the two sides will replay at Whyteleafe on Tuesday evening.
The hosts started brightest, the first real chance coming in the 10th minute when lively forward Leon Yarnie burst into the area, his shot deflected on to the post and out for a corner. Fred Fleming cleared the corner, but the ball was crossed back from the left wing by Yarnie and flashed across the area, eluding all attempts at a final touch.
On 15 minutes Leafe's Jason Goodchild was brought down on the edge of the Walton area and Sam Butler fired the resultant free-kick narrowly over the crossbar. As the visitors began to press, a well judged Mark Hammond cross was bravely punched away by Casuals keeper Chico Ramos as Paul Scott looked poised to head home.
On the half hour Walton were awarded a penalty when Captain Craig Lewington was tripped in a crowded penalty area, however giant keeper Rob O'Hara made a fine save from Anthony Gale's spot-kick, diving low to his left and was then alert enough to block a fierce drive from the rebound.
Just before the break Leafe striker Leon McDowall, returning to form after a lengthy spell out with a knee ligament injury, saw a fierce goal-bound shot deflected away by defender Michael Cayford, having latched on to a Hammond corner.
Whyteleafe increasingly dominated the play after the break, but could not produce a winning goal. On 55 minutes McDowall broke away down the right wing, cut inside and curled a left-footed shot inches wide of the post. On the hour Sam Butler, so impressive once again, hit a powerful shot from the edge of the area inches over the bar.
With 15 minutes left McDowall repeated his earlier run, this time his left-footed shot just the wrong side of the crossbar. On 80 minutes Yarnie missed a golden chance for Walton, a low Martin Grant cross from the left flashing across the area to Yarnie at the far post who failed to connect from two yards out.
It was Leafe however who finished strongest with Sam Butler firstly hitting a speculative wind-assisted shot from 30 yards, having seen keeper Ramos off his line, the ball again just inches over the bar and in time added on Butler burst through the hosts' defensive line only to find the alert Ramos well placed to push his firmly hit shot away for a corner that came to nothing.
