Whyteleafe looked to bounce back from a hugely disappointing mid-week performance that saw a home defeat to Eastbourne Town. Four days later saw a number of players restored to their more familiar positions and the team boosted by the return from suspension of midfield playmaker Rob Smith.
Despite a sun drenched pitch of immaculate turf little football was on offer before the break with neither team managing a shot on target as two evenly matched sides cancelled each other out.
After the interval the hosts took command, a 48th minute corner fizzing across keeper O'Hara's area needing the faintest of touches to finish, but missing everyone. In reply Asher Hudson, increasingly lively on the right flank hit a perfect cross that Mark Hammond headed inches over at the back post.
Four minutes later Walton had the opportunity to go ahead, a fine corner finding the head of striker Paul Armstrong but he steered the ball straight into the grateful arms of O'Hara with the rest of his goal begging.
On 58 minutes the Casuals looked to have taken the lead when 'Leafe forward Andrew Martin turned a corner into his own net; however the referee Mr Gillett disallowed the goal for a push in the area to save Martin's blushes.
Walton missed another sitter when Armstrong again blazed wide from ten yards as he met a tremendous cross from lively winger Michael Barima. A minute later Kristan Webb met a corner to glance the ball just wide once again of O'Hara's charmed goal.
In reply Mark Hammond hit a fierce free-kick, pushed over by impressive keeper Craig Bradshaw and with 15 minutes to go Richard Dimmock met an Ellis Conroy cross but nodded the ball just wide. Next it was Jason Goodchild who threatened to break the deadlock with a sweet volley safely gathered by Bradshaw once again.
The game nearly finished in a very bizarre fashion, the very last touch being an Ellis Conroy back-header that eluded the on-rushing Rob O'Hara looking seemingly goal-bound but to the relief of the travelling support it trickled just past the post.
So, no victory for 'Leafe but against a side that boasted nine goals without reply from its last two games, a better display that gives hope as manager Massey's depleted squad face a challenging run of game over the coming days and weeks.
Whyteleafe: O'Hara, Hudson, Jabbie, Reeve, Broomhead, Goodchild, Smith, Hammond, Conroy, Martin (MacLean 74), Dimmock (Gray 85) Unused subs: Harney, Massey.
