A severely depleted Whyteleafe travelled to in-form Sittingbourne with relegation still a threat at the end of a difficult season for manager Stuart Massey.
Recent on-pitch misdemeanours saw the suspension of senior players including captain Ali Reeve, Robert Smith, Adam Broomhead, Alhajie Jabbie and Andrew Martin, meaning call-ups for young prospects Daniel Aldous, Riccardo Williams and Dean Eaton, with veteran forward Denva McKenzie filling in at centre-half.
The first half hour was short on action with Leafe not posing a single threat to the 'Bourne keeper Matt Reed. At the other end McKenzie defended well alongside Asher Hudson, restricting the hosts, enjoying most of the possession, to just one speculative shot from Nick Reeves that hit the side netting on 22 minutes. Six minutes later the inevitable goal came when Akhazzan burst through a static defence and chipped advancing keeper Gavin Dilley to find the net.
Both sets of supporters enjoyed the spring sunshine, but there was little else to appreciate in a game barely reflecting the play-off aspirations of the hosts and relegation fears of the visitors.
After the break Sittingbourne took control with a fierce Akhazzan shot well saved by Dilley before on 70 minutes Mark De Bolla jinxed inside full-back Michael Harney and unleashed an unstoppable shot to double the score.
In reply five minutes later exciting prospect Riccardo Williams hit a quite stunning volley from 25 yards out that swerved into the top corner of Reed's net, giving renewed hope for the travelling Leafe support. Sadly it was short lived as 'Borne substitute Elie Kayembe hit another spectacular goal from distance to put the game beyond doubt. The hosts still pressed and Kayembe hit the post on 82 minutes with the lively Akhazzan denied another strike by Ellis Conroy clearing off the line at the death.
Results from elsewhere, notably defeat for Chipstead meant that Leafe are safe for another season and Sittingbourne will just miss out on the promotion play-offs, so the two teams are destined to meet again next term.
