WHYTELEAFE 0-1 PHOENIX SPORTS
Whyteleafe's unbeaten record at home was ended by a Phoenix side who dominated the early part of the game and were quick to shut down Leafe as they improved during the game. Whyteleafe had a chance in the 1st minute when a cross fell to Sam Clayton at the far post. His shot was blocked.
Phoenix had a chance when they won a free kick 28 yards out. Ashley Probets well struck shot clipped the top of the bar. Christie Pattisson caused Leafe problems with his pacy runs down the right. In the 13th minute a fine run was ended by last defender John Scarborough with a great saving block. A minute later the only goal of the game came which was both fortunate and controversial. Pattisson completely miss hit his shot but it fell to Duah-Kessie who looked offside, but his strike into the back of the net was allowed to stand.
Whyteleafe had a couple of opportunities to pull it back, Tommy Hutchings, returning from Dorking, hit a 30 yard free kick over the bar, then Clayton shot just wide from the edge of the box onthe half hour. For Phoenix, Jack Hopkins shot over when put through by Pattisson then Patisson himself forced a good save from Joe Tupper. Clayton then saw a 30 yard free kick saved just before the break.
Whyteleafe made two changes at half time and did see more of the game. Hutchings had a 28 yard free kick in the 50th minute but shot over. In the 53rd minute Clayton beat 2 defenders, and his deflected cross was tipped over the bar by Steven Phillips. Scarborough made another important block to deny Ogboe in the 55th minute. Whyteleafe were trying to press forward but Phoenix were quick to shut them down. Hassan Ibrahim's 69th minute cross found Scott Day in the box but under pressure he headed wide. A minute later Day headed the ball on to Clayton who's shot was saved. Clayton then had another chance in the 74th minute but headed wide from a Lanre Azeez cross. Stefan Wright was well placed to eztend the visitors lead in the 79 th minute but shot wide.
Whyteleafe had two late free kicks in dangerous positions both taken by Clayton, but both of them were blocked by the wall.
