Report: Whyteleafe 3-2 Walton Casuals

Whyteleafe continued their impressive run completing their 9th win in 11 games, beating former Tennants Walton Casuals and have risen from 16th to 8th place during this superb run of form.
Casuals pulled back a 2 goal deficit but Leafe kept going and got a winning goal late on. The only downside to the game was the loss of Scott Day early on to a suspected fractured cheekbone. Leafe will be wishing a speedy recovery to Scott who has been in tremendous form, scoring 9 in his previous 10 appearances.

Leafe started brightly. Lanre Azeez made a good run down the right in the first minute, his cross found Day but his shot went wide. Sheikh Ceesay was brought back into the side for the first time in 3 seasons as Kyle Merson was unavailable and he made a good 5th minute save from Josh Kelly. Vance Bola made a good run in the 10th minute, beating 2 defenders before shooting over the bar.

Tommy Hutchings came on in the 13th minute for the injured Day who was taken to hospital.
Sean McCormack found Kelly on the edge of the box and his curling shot was just inches wide of the target. Leafe took the lead in the 27th minute. Tom Chapman's corner was flicked on by Antoine Simeone, and Anton Douglas was on hand to turn the ball in from close range.

Douglas and Bola both missed good chances to extend the lead before Lanre Azeez finished off a great 8 man move from Leafe in the 32nd minute, scoring from close range. Kelly pulled one back for the visitors in the 37th minute, being the first to reach a long ball and with Ceesay rushing out to try and block, his chip found the empty net.

Leafe suffered a second injury in the 41st minute, forcing Bola off and Josh Adusei was brought on. Hassan Ibrahim forced a good save from Denzel Gerrar then with the last kick of the half, Jack Sammoutis hit a fine left foot shot low into the corner of the net to leave the sides level at half time.

There was far less goalmouth action in the second half, and some fussy refereeing saw a series of yellow cards in a game that didn't really warrant them. The few chances that did come were in favour of Leafe, and it was from one of those in the 73rd minute that Leafe retook the lead with what was to be the winning goal.  Douglas and Chapman combined well on the left, and the cross found Hutchings in a surprising amount of space in front of goal and he joyfully shot into the back of the net.

Leafe had one further chance to extend the lead in the 82nd minute, Bradley Simms' cross picked out Hutchings in the box but his header was too close to the keeper. There was a somewhat surprising 4 minutes added but Leafe managed to keep possession and hold on to the 3 points.

Whyteleafe Team: Ceesay, Simms, Douglas, Graham, Scarborough, Simeone, Azeez, Ibrahim, Bola (Adusei 41), Day (Hutchings 13), Pearson (Hegarty 82). Subs Not Used: Asante, Clothier.
