Report: Horsham 1-0 Whyteleafe

Whyteleafe went down to a late goal in this top of the table clash between the third and fourth placed teams. Horsham started brightly and in the opening minutes, Corey Holder made a great saving tackle to deny Rob O'Toole and Tyler McCarthy made a good save from Charlie Harris. Bryan Akongo brought Harris down 25 yards out in the 17th minute. Harris stepped up to take it and curled the free kick just wide of the target.

Leafe's first chance came in the 21st minute. Kelvin Ogboe found Valentino Carpene in the box. He laid the ball off to Matt O'Donoghue who's shot was saved by Josh Pelling.  6 minutes later David Owusu's header from an Ogboe cross was saved. From the resultant corner, Bradley Wilson found O'Donoghue on the edge of the box but his shot went over the bar.

The Hornets pressed for a goal before the break, O'Toole heading over from a 41st minute Harris corner, then O'Donoghue cleared a Dylan Merchant shot off the line. Leafe had a good chance in the 48th minute when Carpene sent Akongo clear but his shot was over the bar.  McCarthy then made 2 good saves, one at the feet of Harvey Sparks who was clear, then tipped round a fine shot from Harris.

Wilson intercepted a loose pass in the 58th minute and sent Lauris Chin clear, but Pelling made a good save. Bentley Graham then found O'Donoghue just outside the box and his fine shot was well tipped over the bar by Pelling. Graham then quickly took a 71st minute free kick, sending O'Donoghue down the left behind the defence. O'Donoghue pulled the ball back to Graham following up, but he sliced his shot wide of the goal.

Chin sent Wilson clear in the 80th minute but Pelling was quickly out to beat him to the ball. Horsham's winning goal came after 81 minutes. A corner from Harris was not cleared properly and the loose ball fell to Tyrell Richardson-Brown who fired home a left foot shot from 12 yards. Leafe pushed forward looking for a late equaliser but could not break down the determined Horsham defence.
