Gaffer's Chat with Harry Hudson - Part 1
With such a busy week for the club, it’s a two-part Gaffer’s Chat this week. Steve and Harry nicked a few minutes in the bar after Saturday’s excellent away win at South Park. Check back for the second part of this week’s Gaffer’s Chat on Friday (October 4) when Harry will deal with the build up to Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie in Addlestone, when we take on Abbey Rangers.
Good win on Saturday Harry. A hard fought victory over local rivals South Park in the Velocity Trophy. Tough game? Not often we see our fans outnumber the home contingent at games. There is a real buzz about the club at the minute and the sight and sound of our fans in numbers must be heart -warming? We also seem to have gained a new youth section ‘The Fanatics’ who wave their flag, beat their drum and sing all match long. Well done to them we say, eh? It was awesome that we outnumbered their fans and really pleased we got the win for them in the end. We made hard work of the match, especially falling behind so early on, but still dominated the game. First half we didn’t create enough and looked toothless. Second half though we changed shape and the guys coming onto the pitch were excellent and gave us fresh impetus. We deserved the win in the end albeit we needed a 95th minute winner. The Whyteleafe fanatics are simply amazing!
Superb to see our fans outnumber the home contingent at South Park on Saturday. Talking of decent numbers, there’s a very important charity match at Church Road on Thursday evening (October 3 – 7.45pm – when a Whyteleafe XI will take on an AFC Wimbledon XI as a tribute to Antonio Walker-Barth’s late mum, Angelina, who so tragically passed away recently? You’d like to see as many fans there as possible? Yes, I really would and I hope our fans get behind the event and make it a success. AFC have been truly fantastic and we hope they will come down in their numbers. I understand it is a lot of football this week with Tuesday and Thursday, as well as the small matter of an FA cup match on Saturday, but I hope we come out to support the match. The game is being taken very seriously by both teams and we will be fielding out first team squad only.
