Report: Whyteleafe 4-2 Whitehawk

Whyteleafe took all 3 points against 3rd placed Whitehawk and climb to 4th place in the table to maintain their ambition to reach the play offs. The Hawks were a strong well organized side and Leafe played very well to take the points. The visitors could have taken a first minute lead, David Martin finding Connor Tighe in the box, but his header went wide.

Leafe however got off to the perfect start, new signing Ryan Gondoh made a great run through the middle before finding Corey Andrews on the edge of the box, his well struck shot into the corner of the goal giving Leafe the lead. Tighe went close for the visitors, curling a 16th minute effort just wide, then Marvin Hamilton-Omole headed over the bar from a corner.

Leafe then had a spell on top, with Peter Wedgeworth, Ronald Sobowale and Gondoh all going close
The hosts deservedly went 2 up in the 34th minute, leading scorer Ronald Sobowale converting a Matt O'Donoghue cross. Leafe continued to dominate and could have scored more before the break. Andrews sent Gondoh clear but his shot was blocked, then Sobowale had a 42nd minute effort from 25 yards well saved. Wedgeworth then had a free kick from some 30 yards out that Broadbent did well to tip round the post.

The Hawks came out strongly in the second half. Ahmed Abdullah wasted a great chance in the 49th minute, heading wide when well placed, but the visitors were given a glimmer of hope in the 54th minute when Tyler McCarthy came out to claim a cross. He clearly called for the ball but much to McCarthy's frustration Riccardo Thompson headed past him into his own net. Tighe could have equalised 3 minutes later and was unlucky to see his shot hit the post.

Peter Wedgeworth restored the 2 goal lead with a stunning goal in the 58th minute, his dipping shot clearing a crowded defence and dropping into the far corner of the net. Manny Mensah made the game completely safe with a solo goal in the 62nd minute, running from half way, beating 2 defenders before slotting the ball past the advancing James Broadbent. Matias Torres got a consolation for the visitors with a headed goal from close range in the 76th minute. Hamilton-Omole went close with a 30 yard free kick but Leafe held on and were comfortable winners, in fact Bentley Graham could have made the score even more emphatic but headed wide from a Wedgeworth 86th minute corner.
