Report: Whyteleafe 1-1 Chipstead
Whyteleafe and Chipstead shared the points in this Velcro Cup match, but Leafe took the extra point on offer in this competition for winning the penalty shoot out which takes place after any draw in the group stages. Leafe started strongly and Corey Holder was unlucky when his 3rd minute shot from a Peter Wedgeworth corner was blocked on the line. Cory Andrews limped off in the 18th minute and the hosts then took a 20th minute lead. Ex Leafe favourite Sam Clayton crossed and Corey Holder failed to clear it, allowing Sam Bell a run at goal and he finished well, shooting low past Tyler McCarthy. The visitors were enjoying a good spell. McCarthy tipped a Kyen Nicholas header round the post and on the half hour, Clayton shot over the bar when well placed. Leafe came back into the game, Antonio Walker-Barth and Tre Daley both forcing saves from Oliver Pain following crosses from Adam Aziz but lost a second player to injury when Emmanuel Mensah limped off. Manager Harry Hudson will be concerned about the injury list, a third casualty was Captain for the day Corey Holder who had to come off at half time. Chris Boulter was shown a yellow card in the 53rd minute which could have been worse when he brought down Aziz who was through on goal. Wedgeworth took the free kick but shot over the bar. Walker-Barth scored Leafe's equaliser on the hour from close range with an assist from Tyrese Sutherland Wedgeworth's corners were causing a lot of problems in the Chips defence. Bentley Graham in the 65th minute and Helge Orome in the 71st minute were both off target with headers. Both sides had opportunities to score a winner, Aziz had an 81st minute shot saved and a Wedgeworth free kick in the 87th minute crashed against the bar. Deep into stoppage time Bell was clear at the other end, but McCarthy made a fine save to share the points and take the game to penalties. McCarthy saved the second Chipstead penalty, and with Graham, Sutherland, Wedgeworth Aziz and Orome all successful with their spot kicks, Leafe won the shoot out.
