Whyteleafe FC 1-0 Ramsgate FC
Whyteleafe continued their impressive run and have amassed 19 points since Boxing Day in 8 games, rising up the table to 8th place. Leafe started brightly. Hassan Ibrahim forced a good save from Jordan Carey in the 3rd minute with a 25 yard drive. A minute later Sam Clayton had a shot but it was straight at Carey.
Leafe's goal, which was to prove to be the only one in the match came in the 7th minute. Scott Day, in a rich vein of form coinciding with the teams good run, scored for the 8th time in Leafe's unbeaten 8 game run. Clayton had the ball on the left, beat his man and his deep cross went to Lanre Azeez on the far side of the box. He picked out Day in front of goal and his firm header hit the back of the net.
Leafe continued to dominate. Day forced another good save in the 26th minute when Azeez laid the ball off to him and his powerful shot was well saved by Carey. At the other end Ramsgate were creating a few chances but they were wasted, Tom Chapman being guilty of hitting 2 shots high over the stand into the car park and missing a header when well placed.
Vance Bola had to come off early due to injury, and his replacement, Tom Pearson, was soon into the action, running into the Rams penalty area and was brought down in the box, but Leafe were denied what looked like a good penalty claim.
Azeez had a shot just over the bar in the 42nd minute following a good run, then Alfie Paxman's free kick from a dangerous position was straight at Kyle Merson. The second half was more even with the visitors playing some good football but Leafe were able to answer all of the questions asked. Azeez made a good run down the right, finding Clayton at the far edge of the box. He chipped Carey but the ball went across the face of goal with no one able to get the touch needed to put it in the net. Another shot from Clayton from a similar narrow angle in the 57th minute was cleared off the line.
Ramsgate then had 2 opportunities from corners, one from Chapman in the 65th minute that was headed wide by George Crimmen, then Liam Dickson got a head to Paxman's 71st minute corner, the ball going dangerously loose close to the line before Merson pounced on it. Having been denied a first half penalty, Leafe then survived a claim at the other end when Adonis -Taylor looked to have held back the Rams striker but again the referee waved away the claim. Clayton shot just wide from 25 yards in the 79th minute and the pacey Pearson broke clear in the 85th minute but shot stright at Carey who came out to close him down.
