Report: Three Bridges FC 3-2 Whyteleafe FCWhyteleafe will consider themselves unlucky not to have got something from this game, having looked to be the better side for long periods and hitting the woodwork 3 times, before going down to a stoppage time own goal.
Kevin Ogboe, Leafe's new signing from Hastings almost had a dramatic start to his debut when in the first minute, Lauris Chin found him on the edge of the box but his shot was blocked. Marvin Armstrong shot over the bar in the 4th minute following a strong run through the host's defence. Matt O'Donoghue then saw his 7th minute shot take a deflection, which keeper James Shaw caught at the second attempt.
Arif Hattabi had a golden opportunity in the 14th minute when Chin found him in space in the box, but his shot clipped the bar and went over. Leafe continued to edge the game with Tyler McCarthy having little to do, In fact just one comfortable save from a shot straight at him, Former Leafe player Ibby Akanbi was a constant threat but had little support.Ogboe had a 29th minute shot saved by Shaw and Bradley Wilson's free kick 2 minutes later was too high.
Leafe came closest to scoring in the 41st minute when a rocket of a shot from 25 yards by O'Donoghue crashed against the inside of the post and went across the face of goal to safety.
Three Bridges looked a different side in the second half. George Gaskin headed into the net in the 52nd minute but was ruled offside. They didn't have to wait long however for a goal that counted. A fine run from Akanbi saw him put Toyo Adeshina clear and he scored the 56th minute opening goal.
Leafe attacked from the restart and it was no surprise when they equalised in the 59th minute. Another fine strike from outside the box by O'Donoghue, this time going low into the bottom corner giving Shaw no chance. Leafe then had a dominant spell, looking the more likely to score. Ogboe found Chin in front of goal in the 61st minute but Shaw bravely dived to save at his feet. Hattabi then had a shot blocked, with O'Donoghue's volley from the rebound going over the bar. Joshua Malcolm then hit a tremendous left footed curling strike from range that crashed against the bar.
It was something of a surprise when the hosts took the lead in the 82nd minute, Connor French set up Gaskett who shot past Tyler into the net. Leafe's reply was instant. Straight from the kick off, Hattabi received the ball on the left wing, beat the defence and crossed where Bryan Akongo was on hand to score from close range.
Three Bridges then got an unfortunate and heartbreaking winner in stoppage time. Brannon O'Neils shot was going wide of the far post, but Corey Holder was not to know this, and stretching to try and block the shot, only managed to turn it into his own net to give the hosts all 3 points.
Leafe remain in third place and will look to build on that with a home fixture against Greenwich next Saturday, before a Surrey Senior Cup match the following Tuesday at Church Road.
