Report: Whyteleafe FC 1-0 Hastings United

Whyteleafe continued their impressive run completing their 10th win in 12 games, a run that has earned John Scarborough and Paul Dale the manager of the month award for February.

A thoroughly entertaining game that saw numerous chances at both ends with near misses, good goalkeeping and last gasp defending keeping the score line down to a single goal.
Leafe started brightly. Vance Bola beat 2 defenders in the 3rd minute before his shot went wide, then Antone Douglas had a shot blocked on the line by a defender.

Bola continued to torment the visiting defence, breaking clear in the 12th minute. Charlie Horlock did well to save with his feet. He shot wide again when well placed in the 17th minute, then laid the ball off for Tom Pearson to strike in the 21st minute, his effort going just wide of the near post. Hastings came back into the game and started creating chances of their own. Davide Rodari broke clear in the 23rd minute but shot wide.

At the other end Bola was again involved, this time finding Scott Day on the edge of the box but his shot went wide. Leafe fans were amazed to see Day playing so soon after suffering a nasty injury just 2 weeks ago, but he was soon challenging and winning most aerial balls in his usual style with no fear.

Rodari, who looked dangerous on the break, missed another chance then on the half hour, Ibrahim Hassan cleared off the line following a Sinnkaye Christie header from a corner.
Antonio Walker-Barth went close in the 32nd minute then at the other end Bola's shot went just over the bar.   Walker -Barth had the final chance of the half but his shot was blocked by Antonio Simeone.

Lanre Azeez made some good runs on the right, and his 48th minute cross found Day in the box but he shot straight at Horlock. Day then became provider for Bola a minute later but Horlock made a good save. Hastings won a free kick some 25 yards out in the 57th minute. It was well struck by Sam Cruttwell, Kyle Merson making a good save.

The winning goal came in the 64th minute. A long ball down the left looked to be comfortable for the defence, but Bola didn't give up the chase, won the ball, then took it round Horlock who had come across to try and block him, he then took the ball into the box and shot into the empty net.
Merson saved another free kick in the 71st minute, this time from Sam Adams,  and a good shot from Tom Hutchings at the other end was well saved by Horlock. Josh Adusei should have scored with a close range header from Sam Clayton's 82nd minute corner but it went wide. Rodari went close for the visitors in the 87th minute, and a minute later Azeez was inches over from clinching the game.

Both keepers made a good save in stoppage time, Horlock from Bola then at the other end, Merson from Dayshonne Golding. A very enjoyable victory for Leafe against a Hastings side who had made this a close entertaining game.
