Report: Thamesmead Town 2-3 Whyteleafe FC

Leafe took the lead in the 4th minute. Cormac Hegarty made a good run down the left and his cross picked out Scott Day, who's header was well saved by Max Ovenden, but he couldn't hold on to it and Day pounced on the rebound firing into the back of the net. Hegarty then found Day with a throw in after 7 minutes, he flicked it on to Sam Clayton who's shot was saved by Ovenden.

Thamesmead only had to wait till the 9th minute to equalise. A minute after Bode Anidugbe had shot over when well placed, Danquah Williams' cross from the left was firmly headed home by Paul Vines. Callum Adonis-Taylor then limped off, bringing Shawn Clement Peter into the game, and Leafe had to reshuffle their positions. Having already lost Bradley Simms in the warm up, and now Adonis-Taylor, Scott Day became the third choice right back and Clement-Peter took on the unfamiliar role of striker.

Leafe regained the lead in the 18th minute. Bentley Graham found Lanre Azeez on the right. His cross saw a scramble in the goal mouth that saw Shawn Clement-Peter poke the ball home from close range.Tom Hutchings then hit a well struck 25 yarder on the turn that forced a good save from Ovenden. The hosts were again quick to reply. In the 21st minute Tom O'Connors through ball split the Leafe defence and Vines was first to reach it, shooting past Kyle Merson to equalise.

Leafe then had a series of chances, Clayton's 25th minute corner found Day but his header was over the bar. 2 minutes later Hutchings fired  into the side netting following good work from Lanre Azeez. A minute laterAzeez had a shot himself which Ovenden parried, and Clayton was first to respond putting the ball into the back of the net, but he was  ruled offside.

At the other end Solomon Taiwd hit a 25 yard free kick over the bar  and Williams broke clear of the defence but Kyle Merson was quickly out to block his shot. The second half started in similar vein to the first with both sides having a good early chance. For Thamesmead Vines shot wide when well placed in the 49th minute, then at the other end, Clement-Peter got between the defence, and with Ovenden off his line the goal was empty, but his shot was straight at Ovenden.

Leafe began to dominate proceedings and most of the later stages of the game were played in the Thamesmead half. Day's 71st minute throw found Hassan Ibrahim and his low cross just need a touch as it went just in front of goal but no one could quite get a touch to it. Hegarty put another good cross in the 74th minute which was just too high for Azeez who was unmarked in front of goal. Clement-Peter then shot straight at Ovenden when Azeez found him in the box.
Leafe's winner came in the 80th minute, Day getting his second heading home a Hegarty corner through a crowded defence in off the underside of the bar. Vance Bola had a 90th minute shot blocked ans Hassan's claims for a penalty when he went down trying to reach the rebound were rejected. With the last action of the game, Azeez' cross to the far post was inches away from the stretching Hutchings who only needed a touch to get a fourth for Leafe.
